In this post, I will show you a quick and easy way to brighten your photos from your phone using Lightroom, a FREE app! I’ll demonstrate how to make colors pop more and give your photo an overall better look!
Step 1: Brightening Specific Colors in Photo
This first step is to bring out specific colors in the photo, making them pop! I’ll demonstrate how to adjust the colors by showing you how I change my skin color to make myself appear more tan.
Open the photo you want to edit and tap Color, then Mix. Next, tap on the orange color circle. You’ll see Hue, Saturation, and Luminance. To make my skin tone darker, I slide the Saturation up and the Luminance down. Then, I adjust it until I’m as dark as I want to be. It’s really THAT simple!
Above, I show how I adjust the yellow color in the photo. I want the background to be less yellow, so I lowered the Saturation and raised the Luminance. So, basically, you just do the opposite if you’re wanting to make a color less prominent.
Step 2: Brightening The Overall Look of the Photo
The photo on the far left is what the image looked like before any brightening was done. To brighten the photo, go to the Light section just to the right of Color. Once in this section, I turn up the Exposure and the Contrast until the photo looks lighter and brighter. Next, I turn down the Shadows and Blacks, which give the photo more dimension. I raise the Whites and Highlights, which make your teeth look whiter and the overall look of the photo brighter. That’s pretty much all there is to it!
