If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve probably figured out that I’m not an expensive makeup kinda girl. I hate the term “drugstore makeup,” but that’s what I use for the most part. I don’t try out new things often. Usually when I find something that works for me I use it forever (unless they change the ingredients or something).
For a little background, I have combo/oily skin and eyelids, the occasional zit, and sometimes dry/flakey spots.
- F A C E : In the winter, my skin needs a little more moisture (yup, even though I’m oily) so I start out by moisturizing with Simple Replenishing Moisturizer. It’s one of the only ones I’ve found that doesn’t make my foundation melt off. In the summer, I nix the moisturizer because my face overproduces oil when it’s warm. For my brows, I just fill them in with a NYX pencil in the color Taupe. I blend it in with an eyebrow brush. Next, I mix 2 parts Revlon Colorstay Combo/Oily Foundation (250 Fresh Beige) and 1 part Rimmel Fix & Perfect Makeup Primer with my fingers and put a good layer of that all over my face and neck. I let it dry while I do my eye makeup and then I add a powder over the top of it. I use Merle Norman Purely Mineral Makeup in L20. This is the only pricey item I use. It’s about $30, but since I only use it to set my foundation, it lasts probably a year and a half. After that, I put blush on the apples of my cheeks. I’m currently using Physicians Formula Happy Booster cause I like a pretty bright pink.
- E Y E S : While my foundation dries, I do my eye makeup. I start by priming them with ELF Shadow Lock Primer in sheer. SO cheap, yet so good! I can tell a major difference when I don’t use it. Next, I cover my lid with a frosty, almost rose goldish pink color. I use an Ulta Brand one that they no longer make (idk what I’ll do when it runs out!) but I linked some similar ones below. Next, I put a shimmery chocolate brown in the crease. I use some random samples I have for this, but again, I linked some similar ones. After that, I put a nude to creamish color below my brows and then just blend the crease into the lid and upper part of my eye.
- L I P S : Nothing much here. I honestly have a weird thing about lip products. I hate using stuff on my lips because I feel like it dries them out. The only time I do is when they are chapped from weather or something. If that happens, I use Nivea A KIss of Smoothness or Yes To Cooling Lip oil.
- L A S H E S : FINALLY. I thought my makeup routine was pretty simple, but after typing all this I’m having second thoughts! lol Anyway, I put a coat of Maybelline Full N Soft non-waterproof mascara on, let it dry, and then put a coast of Full N Soft waterproof mascara on. You might be thinking, “what’s the point?” Well, taking off waterproof mascara is like willingly ripping your eyelashes out. Am I right? But not wearing waterproof mascara is just asking for disaster, especially if you have oily skin. Well, if you wear the non waterproof one underneath, your mascara will still last, but it will be a lot easier to take off at the end of the day. Trust me, I’ve been doing this for years! Lastly, if you want a little more of a dramatic lash, but still natural, I use magnetic lashes that just go on the outer part of the eye. They might sound intimidating, but they are SO much better than glue-on ones! And you can re-use them over and over. I’ll link the ones I have and the video I watched to learn how to put them on/take care of them.
